cats

I'm going to be perfectly honest, I enjoyed Cats wayyyy more than I thought I would! Not a fan of ALW musicals in general (I think I'm just scarred from Bad Cinderella and now I have trust issues). That being said, Cats is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon in the theatre world as it was the longest running musical for many years. It's weird and quirky, with some songs I didn't enjoy but I can't deny there are some bangers.

I've had Mister Mistoffeles stuck in my head for the past 4 days... I find it fascinating that it's adapted from T.S. Eliot's poetry, as it's very unique for a musical. (I'm sick to death of film to stage adaptations!!) If we ignore the abysmal 2021 remake (that I KNOW I'm going to have to watch and review at some point...), Cats style, costuming and music is a delight and I'm interested to watch the 1998 proshot.

I've never seen a production of Cats, so this was a first. The costumes and makeup were so good in making each character distinct and unique. Loved the choreography! Cats isn't my favourite show but I do enjoy a few numbers and some were improved upon from the original cast recording. Memory has to be my favourite.
